Looking for new ways to host fun and engaging virtual events? Alumni communities need a place to come together, now more than ever and the possibilities are endless via Zoom! Virtual events are a great way to engage alumni communities regardless of location or ability to gather in person. There are infinite number of ways for you to engage with your Dartmouth family online. Below are just a few of the best practices events compiled from our Dartmouth alumni volunteers in the last few months!
Speaker Event
- Host a Dartmouth professor or local expert for a discussion around salient themes. Topics can range from COVID-19 and public health, wellness and work life balance, combating racism and more!
Happy Hour
- Grab your beverage of choice and socialize while practicing social distancing. These can be as formal or informal as you’d like and can range from casual catch-up to a speaker series. You can be as creative as you like -- cheers!
- The sky is the limit when it comes to format and can range from coffee meet-ups, kids gatherings, casual check-ins, and traditional social hours.
Exercise Class
- Virtual exercise classes are a great way to engage with friends and exercise at the same time! Classes can include meditation, yoga, Zumba, kickboxing, stretching, body bootcamp, and more. Be sure to bring your water bottle and a great attitude!
Virtual Book Club
- Have group members vote on and read a selected book, graphic novel, or short story and then meet up for a discussion. Bring your own questions, feedback, and snacks!
- If your assigned reading has been adapted into a film, ask members to check it out, too. You can then organize a Movie Night through Chrome Extension Netflix Party where you can watch the movie together and use the built-in chat feature!
Trivia Night
- Get trivial! Challenge your group members with fun rounds of trivia. Pick your poison ranging from current events, local landmarks, Dartmouth-themed, sports, music, film, or any topic your group is interested in!
We want to hear from you! What virtual events have worked for you and your community? Share your event details so that we can add them to our ever-growing list!
